MORE EFFECTIVE TO PREPARE TINDERS
- SHARP TEETH ON END to grind off some of the magnesium and wood shavings.
- MORE EFFECTIVE – make small wood chips or curls of ferrocerium to work as tinder.
COMFORTABLE TO HANDLE WHEN WEAR GLOVES
- MORE COMFORTABLE for big hands and striking when wearing gloves. Not too large or small or painful to grip after multiple failed attempts to start a fire.
- ANTI-SLIP PATTERN – laser engraved FERROFIRE logos work well for that.
THROW HOT RIBBONS WITH A FERRO ROD
- 4 STRIKING EDGES are nice and sharp for a good, beefy spark.
- SUPER SHARP – all made of carbon steel with 4 sharp edges, “bite” surface of a ferro rod to generate hot sparks shower with shorter striking distance.

I bought these rods directly off their site and then saw they were cheaper on Amazon. I prefer not to buy from Amazon so I went directly to the source but wish I could have gotten at least as good of a deal directly from the source than from a 3rd party. I got everything in a couple days so no problem there.
After scraping off the coating on the Ferro Rods they produce a lot of sparks to start a fire
These flints (pack of 2) are solid products. Just by holding them you can tell they are made of good quality. They work great and you are able to get sparks with somewhat relative ease. it is not like a lighter, where you strike it once and have a flame, you will need to strike it with a knife or other sharp striker several times to get the sparks. The manufacturer does list several metrics that are not easily verifiable, such as the temperature of the sparks is 5,500F or that the product can be struck 15,0000 times. Nevertheless, these rods do get the job done. It may be obvious to most, but I don’t advise using this product indoors.
I got these to put in my go bag. They’re not fancy. They just do the job. The rods are thicker than I thought. They have some weight to them and seem like they will not break easily. They strike well. I took them outside to practice and was able to start a little fire fairly quickly. I didn’t use the striker that came with them. I used a knife, instead. I find the striker to be a little small and cumbersome to use. Overall, I’m happy with this fling rod.
I have had others that are too hard and difficult to scrape shavings off of. Not this rod, it is just right. It make very good sparks. It will be going in the survival kit in my plane.
