We built the CacheONE because we kept hearing the same complaints from experienced outdoorsmen. The ferro rod is fine, but the striker is junk. Some rods are too short—you lose an inch just gripping them—and others are too long and bulky to carry comfortably. The whistle and compass are afterthoughts, buried in a pocket you’ll never find. So we designed a tool that fixes those problems, not one that just looks good on a shelf.
The ferrocerium rod is 9/16″ thick with 3″ of effective striking length—threads don’t count. That extra thickness means more surface contact per scrape—more shavings, denser sparks. Most 4″ rods waste nearly an inch because you have to grip the rod itself. Our extended handle gives you better leverage, so you get more spark with less effort. And it’s threaded, so when the rod finally wears out after 20,000+ strikes, you replace the rod—not the whole tool.
The striker is stamped and then precision ground from carbon alloy steel. Two sharp edges, ambidextrous use. It bites deep and throws dense white-hot sparks—ignites fire plugs and natural tinder without fuss. No gimmicks, just a striker that works.
The capsule handle is the part guys ask about most. It’s oversized and watertight. A tail cap with a liquid-filled compass threads onto the back. Inside, we pre-load 9 fire plugs and a 120dB whistle. Rain, snow, river crossings—everything stays bone-dry. One tool handles your entire fire kit.
The body is black and orange—not for looks, but so you can spot it in brush, snow, or a dark tent corner. Dropping gear in the backcountry happens more than you think. This helps you find it fast.
